Technology development may have a significant influence on a company's Human Resources
department. It gives the business the chance to enhance its internal operations, key competencies,
target markets, and organizational design as a whole. The organization's strategic goals must be
the major emphasis of human resources. An organization-wide IT strategy plan must be directed
toward these strategies. These are activities connected to any advancement in the entity's
technical systems, including product design (research and development) and IT systems (Pick, 2017).
Some worry that technology would be harmful; while others think it will change human resources
and make them better. This viewpoint is in no way gloomy. Early evidence suggests that
technology robs humanity—something that is wanted in every human resources
department—which justifies it.
Here are eight ways that advances in technology can affect your HR:
- More Unemployment
Technical developments in HR More employees will lose their jobs as automation replaces
human labor with more machines. Many HR departments will be in perilous situations because
of technological advances. Automation-related employment losses are predicted to reach 90%.
Without employees, businesses could not start nor support genuine human engagement. In the
past, technical advancements have not significantly increased the number of jobs. Future
demands include creating more work for people as the global population continues to increase at
an unprecedented rate. The employee is the center of every HR department. The necessity for an
HR department could be eliminated by rising unemployment brought on by technological
advancements.
- Loss of Human Contact
Chatbots and other technologies are being quickly adopted by many businesses. Distancing
people from one another in an effort to increase profits can lessen social connection, particularly
in the human resources division. Because they can simulate human connections, these methods
are effective. Direct human touch in human resource management will no longer be necessary
thanks to these bots. Machines are only able to replicate or pretend to comprehend human
experience. Customer dissatisfaction might result from the use of chatbots in human resource
management. People seek a sense of interpersonal connection. Eliminating the urge to feel
connected, a fundamental social need, in the field of human resources might have serious
negative effects.
- Inability to Keep up With Technological Trends
Due to the requirement for training and adaptation time, advances in technology make
implementation extremely challenging. However, the moment one training session concludes,
another one begins. Management of human resources and technological advancement necessitate
ongoing changes. Workers always strive to follow trends because of this speed. The development
of teams should be a priority for businesses. Through these activities, employees will improve
their interpersonal and customer service skills. Attempting to follow evolving trends is usually
beneficial.
- Less Human Activity
Technology-based tools may be used to implement human resource management innovations.
Due to the prolonged sitting required when using electronics like computers, people become
immobile. Physical human contacts are significantly reduced as a result. Because it can induce
obesity and raise your chance of developing high blood pressure, less human exercise is also bad
for your health. Employee morale may suffer and productivity may decline if there is less
personal interaction at work.
- Over-Dependency on Technological Advancements
Although technology is effective, viruses and cyberattacks may still affect it. This can result in
the loss of crucial business data. The HR department might lose important employee data,
including personal information. Technology advancements might potentially pose a severe
danger to employee contact. Instead of constructing a real office, many businesses will
concentrate on developing a virtual one. Even if a company's operating costs could decrease
dramatically in the short run, for many small businesses, the unforeseen effects outweigh the
benefits in the long run. Such a heavy dependence on technology may result in significant losses.
Companies could be more concerned with the technology they require than with the
requirements of their employees.
- Ethical Dilemmas
Technology powered by artificial intelligence (AI) is morally indifferent. In the area of managing
human resources, using a moral compass is crucial. Due to the choice that must be made between
doing the right or the easy thing, technological innovation may cause businesses to face
additional ethical conundrums. Such conundrums are beyond the capacity of technology to
resolve. It could choose to reduce the number of employees it has as a means of increasing
productivity. Additionally, you have no control over the unforeseen effects of deploying artificial
intelligence.
- Poor Social Well-Being
The use of technology to communicate might have a negative impact on mental health. The
relationships that employees have with one another, their friends, and their families might be
badly impacted by this new HR approach. Such connections are essential to a person's health.
The development of technology raises the possibility of ushering in a society where there are no
meaningful human connections. Depression and suicide instances may rise because of the lack of
relationships.
- Moving Into the Future
There is little question that as time passes, advancements in technology will continue to
influence many facets of human life. However, the dangers of emerging technologies like
artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and remote labor will have an impact on interpersonal
interactions. This change poses a danger to the structural integrity of human resource
management. It will be difficult to integrate worker's requirements into the current HR system
because of this disconnection from social relationships. Every firm will have to deal with the
challenge of balancing the desire to increase productivity with employee satisfaction as we go
into the future (America's Back Office, 2023) .
Conclusion
The characteristic that has most significantly influenced human life is our capacity for evolution.
A significant improvement brought about by this progression is technology. Technology's
primary objective is to benefit people. However, technological advancements like AI have had
both beneficial and harmful repercussions. It is expected that technological developments in
human resource management will have benefits and drawbacks. While many think technology
will change human resources and improve them, others worry it may have the opposite effect.
This point of view is by no means gloomy. Early evidence suggests that technology removes the
humanity sought in every human resources department, which justifies this claim. This essay will
examine the dangers of avoiding conventional human contact.
